Well respected adventurer and all round good bloke, Alastair Humphreys, has a blog. On it he talks about the Year of Microadventure challenge.

Having read his amazing book, Microadventures, I decided, with my best mate Harry, to try and complete a Year of Microadventures.

Like the worst pair of adventurers in the world we pulled through all sorts of scrapes and mishaps. We went wild swimming in a duck pond in Central London, paddled a canoe down a Welsh river, trespassed on National Trust Properties, completed an ultramarathon and wandered round Clacton-on-sea out of season and at night time.

(I wrote a book on it, don't you know!)

Harry and I decided to follow Alistair Humphreys' advice and go and spend a night under the stars in January. It was bloody cold so we brought some gin with us to keep us warm with disastrous consequences!
Harry and I decided to attempt a 'wild' swim in Hyde Park in central London. We weren't very successful and the microadventure was very short but we tried something new and it was (retrospectively) quite fun! Apologies for the darkness and Harry's potty mouth.
Harry and Jon complete their 3rd microadventure of the year. This time they are cooking in a woods near Leighton Buzzard.

So we went to Clacton-on-Sea one evening and slept out on the sand dunes and also ran around the town lip syncing to Tenacious D Tribute. Good times. Harry got a bee stuck in his ear though so didn't get much sleep.

Harry persuaded me that doing another lip sync was a good idea. It wasn't!

In October 2014 my boss, Shane, asked me to run an ultramarathon with him. 69 miles, the length of Hadrian's Wall, in under 24 hours. After 9 months of training the date of the run came round.
When we realised that there was a river that sprung out of the mountains near my mum's house and led all the way to sea near Harry's parents' farm we knew we couldn't resist making it a microadventure. It was epic! It was exhausting! Harry almost molested an adder!
Harry and I decided to have some experimental fun on our most recent microadventure. No, not that sort of experimental fun! Check out some camping life hacks that you may or may not want to use on your next microadventure.
